Skirtos (river)

An ancient river that flowed by Edessa (modern Şanlıurfa in Turkey) and into the Euphrates. Much of its modern course is now diverted or built over, although ancient water gates and pools associated with the river are still extant in the southern portion of the ancient city of Edessa.
