Sipous/Sipontum

settlement · 330 BC – 2100 AD

Sipous/Sipontum was a Greek colony that fell first under Samnite control, then was later taken by Alexander of Epirus. The site became a Roman colony in 189 BC. Legend ascribed its foundation to the hero Diomedes.
