Temple of Diomedes (Ploča)

Archaeological evidence in the vicinity of the 14th-century Church of St. John of Trogir on the Croatian Ploča peninsula indicates the presence, in Hellenistic times, of at least a small temple and associated pottery dump. Epigraphic evidence ties the temple to Diomedes, presumably as a protector of navigation. Pliny's testimony that the promontory itself bore the name of Diomedes corroborates this evidence.
