Alhambra, Generalife, and Albayzín together form a UNESCO World Heritage Site that preserves elements of the medieval heritage of Granada, Spain. The Alhambra is a fortified palace complex that was begun by Muhammad I Ibn al-Ahmar, the first Nasrid emir and founder of the Emirate of Granada, in 1238.
