Sanctuary of Eleusinian Demeter in Laconia

sanctuary · 550 BC – 2100 AD

An extensive sanctuary mentioned by Pausanias and located at the modern village of Kalyvia Sochas by virtue of the discovery of a number of inscriptions on the site. Very little of the sanctuary is visible today, as the site was damaged by a number of floods and only ever partly excavated. Modern signage in the village marks the location of some finds.
