Sinzig

Modern Sinzig in Germany's Rheinland-Pfalz was the site of a Roman-era pottery manufacturing site. Scattered other Roman archaeological remains have been identified over the years, but a settlement center -- presumed to have been located on the Kirchhügel -- has not yet been positively located. BAtlas followed earlier scholarship in tentatively identifying this presumed settlement as "Sentiacum" or a variation on same by inferring backward in time on the basis of its earliest appearance in an 8th-century CE document of Pippin the Younger.
