Bracara Augusta

With settlement from the Neolithic onwards, Bracara Augusta (modern Braga in Portugal) was established as a civitas in 20 BCE. In the third century CE, Diocletian advanced the settlement to the capital of the administrative area known as Conventus Bracarensis, forming part of the Roman province of Gallaecia.
