Herodeion

Herodeion or Herodium refers to an archaeological site located in what is now the West Bank, some 12 km south of Jerusalem and 5 km southeast of Bethlehem. In antiquity, Herod the Great established the fortress after defeating his rival Antigonus II Mattathias in 40 BCE.
