Akrotiri

Akrotiri is the modern name of an archaeological site located on the island of Thera (modern Santorini) where a Minoan Bronze Age settlement flourished before being destroyed by a volcanic eruption ca. 1627 B.C. The site has been under scientific excavation since 1967.
