Heraclea ad Latmum/Pleistarcheia

A town of Caria located 25 km east of Miletos on the Ionian coast, Heraclea was located on the lower slopes of Mt. Latmos. Once a part of the Delian League, the city fell to Mausolos in the fourth century B.C. and his philhellene policy accounts for its change of name.
