Ikaros (island)

An island in the Aegean Sea (modern Ikaria), now part of the modern country of Greece. According to Ovid, the island took its name from the burial place of Ikaros, son of Daidalos, whose fantastic flight on wings made by his father ended tragically in the sea nearby.
