Göbekli Tepe

The site of Göbekli Tepe, located in the Germuş mountains of south-eastern Anatolia, was the location of a Neolithic hilltop sanctuary. This sanctuary, thought to be a series of stone enclosures with T-shaped pillars carrying carving of wild animals, was built in the Pre-Pottery Neolithic and ranges in date from 9,600 to 8,200 B.C.
